This project included a survey and review of current status of water recycling and reuse in red meat processing. The risk-based Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) framework was used to develop a guideline and template for water recycling and reuse opportunities for the industry.
This project investigated current stormwater runoff management and reuse in red meat processing facilities in Australia. A review of 5 technologies were undertaken that were applicable to the industry and a framework for good practise and opportunities for stormwater management was produced.
Water audits of buildings at The University of Queensland involved a thorough assessment of water use in the building and costing options to reduce water use and access alternative water sources.
A level 2 AS3598 energy audit was undertaken for Access Community Housing in Cairns on behalf of Engine Room Consulting. This involved an assessment of 32 studio apartments and 8 rooms. A tariff review was undertaken as well as recommendations for installation of solar PV and upgrade of the complex’s hot water system.
We worked with The University of Queensland, Sustainability to provide the Climate Active technical assessment for their carbon neutral certification of the UQ Blue Assembly Event. It is the first event UQ has certified.
Level 2 AS3598 Energy Assessments were undertaken for 5 Queensland foundries as part of the Australian Foundry Industry, Energy Efficiency Information Grants program. Savings of up to $52,000 per year were identified through a range of energy efficiency measures including installation of solar PV to reduce peak demand, lighting and air compressor upgrades. Payback was about 4 years.
This work was undertaken on behalf of EC3 Global. It involved developing a national and international greenhouse gas emission calculator for various fuel, waste and wastewater sources for the EarthCheck Benchmarking Calculator – a tool widely used by the Tourism Industry.
We were commissioned by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) to prepare two reports on identifying best environmental practice in the red meat and fruit & vegetable value chains. This included information for policy makers, investors and industry stakeholders in the food and beverages sectors.
We produced the Dairy Australia 2004/2005 State of the Environment and 2007/08 Sustainability Report. These were produced to benchmark the Australian Dairy industry performance and develop a public report to showcase sustainability initiatives. The project involved gathering resource consumption and waste production data from Australian dairy manufacturers and assessing the performance of the industry in relation to specific key performance indicators.
We have combined and updated several resources on wastewater management and biogas for the red meat processing industry. The online training package includes 8 x 10 minute videos, factsheets, operator checklists and quizzes.
We provide coaching services to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland ‘s ecoBiz program. In the past 10 years we have provided individualised sustainability action plans to over 600 businesses through this program.
We are partnering with The University of Queensland to deliver staff development training for Green Office and Green Lab programs. We have been providing this training service since 2011.

A comprehensive literature review into the state of sustainability for Queensland Advanced Manufacturers was undertaken. 8 case studies on Sustainable Advanced Manufacturing were developed as part of the Queensland Government Advanced Manufacturing 10 Year Roadmap.
We produced 6 Cleantech case studies demonstrating the technical, environmental and cost benefits of installing Clean technologies in Sunshine Coast organisations. These included a local college, university, airport and several businesses.
